these are our most commonly asked questions and so we thought of taking the initiative to answer any queries you might have!
1. Is Dr Rakib a surgeon?
Dr Rakib is a cosmetic physician or doctor. With over 6 years of experience in aesthetic medicine, Dr Rakib also holds a fellowship from the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine. He also regularly trains doctors and nurses via Derma Medical Academy in Melbourne.
2. What does the treatment involve in relation to the jowls?
Dr Rakib uses his unique technique that involves dermal fillers and collagen stimulation injectables across the jawline and the chin. Sometimes, Dr Rakib also uses his signature thread lifting technique. Occasionally he also combines collagen stimulation injectable treatment with threads to get the best result for his patient. You will receive a personalised treatment plan after your 1:1 consultation with Dr Rakib.
3. How many sessions do I need for the treatment?
The collagen injectable treatment and thread lift is usually a once-off session. This is applicable if the treatment is done to soften jowl problems. Some of his patients also do yearly treatments for maintenance even though collagen injectables can last up to 18 months.
4. What type of fillers are used?
Dr Rakib uses premium quality TGA–approved hyaluronic acid fillers for facial contouring treatment. Common concerns addressed include volume loss in the cheeks and under eye, loss of definition in the jawline/chin and nose concerns such as droopy tip and nasal hump.
5. What are collagen stimulation injectables?
Collagen stimulation or biostimulation injectables are made from calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres that work by stimulating your skin’s own collagen production. It helps improve skin firmness, elasticity, and overall tightness, making it ideal for rejuvenating areas like the lower face and neck. Unlike traditional fillers, it does not add volume but instead enhances the natural contour and skin quality over time.
6. How long do the results last?
Collagen-stimulating injectables: Results typically last 12 to 18 months. While the active ingredient gradually breaks down, the new collagen your body produces is long-lasting, contributing to ongoing skin firmness and improvement.
Thread lifting: The threads themselves dissolve over 8 to 10 months, but the collagen produced around them remains, helping to firm and lift the skin even after the threads have fully absorbed.
Dermal fillers: Longevity varies depending on the type of filler used. Softer fillers generally last around 8 to 10 months, while thicker, structural fillers can last 15 months up to 2 years before gradually metabolising.
7. What is the estimated budget?
This is a very good question and we understand patients have financial decisions to make prior to treatment. Unfortunately, due to TGA regulations, prices related to scheduled medications can only be shared during our 1:1 consultation. Secondly, the price varies greatly between patients as every patient has different concerns and different anatomy. That’s why it's crucial to come for a thorough aesthetic consultation where Dr Rakib not only goes through your skin concerns but also discusses the prices for each treatment in detail.
8. Is the treatment painful?
Dr Rakib uses strong numbing cream for all his procedures which means the pain is very minimal and patients often report a comfortable experience.
9. Will I have bruises and swelling?
While mild bruising or swelling can occasionally occur with any injectable treatment, these effects are rare when performed by Dr. Rakib. His advanced anatomical knowledge and precision technique allows him to avoid key blood vessels, significantly reducing the likelihood of bruising. In certain areas, he also utilises ultrasound guidance to enhance accuracy and safety. Although minor bruising or swelling is sometimes unavoidable due to individual skin and vessel characteristics, Dr. Rakib’s gentle approach and the immediate use of cooling measures help ensure any effects are minimal and short-lived.
10. How many threads are needed for jowl lifting?
This is a very individualised treatment. When Dr Rakib assesses the patient for a thread lift, he often uses 4 to 6 threads on each side. Occasionally, he uses 8 threads on each side if the jowls are considered to be heavy.
